Every now and then, there’s a question of continuity in Supernatural. That came up in the Season 15 premiere when Belphegor could see. How was it possible?

When a show is on for as long as Supernatural, continuity issues crop up. Some of those cropped up in the Season 15 premiere. I’ve already looked at Lizzie Borden’s ghost being evil, but now it’s all about Belphegor.

Caution: There are some spoilers in this post from the Season 15 premiere if you haven’t got caught up yet.

The premiere quickly brought us Jack back. Well, sort of. A demon possessed our nougat-loving Nephilim’s body and introduced himself as Belphegor. It was extremely clear quickly that Belphegor could see despite Jack’s eyes previously being burned out by God. Jack’s eyes weren’t brought back when Belphegor possessed the body, but the demon had no problem seeing things.

Was this an inconsistency? After all, in the Season 4 premiere, the demonic waitress couldn’t see after her eyes had been burned out by an angel. Was this something the show had forgotten?

It’s probably not an inconsistency. After all, there are two distinct differences between the two demons. The waitress was possessed at the time of her eyes being burned out. It’s highly likely that Castiel was able to burn the demon’s eyes at the same time as the waitress’s eyes. This would have led to the demon not being able to see.

When Belphegor possessed Jack’s empty body, the eyes had already been burned out. No damage took place when the demon was in the body, so the demon’s eyes hadn’t been directly affected.
