This day in Supernatural history: Cry Wolf aired for the first time

Cry Wolf premiered on this day in Supernatural history. Jared Padalecki starred in the horror movie, and here’s a look back on the anniversary.

How many horror movies have you seen starring Jared Padalecki? Before and in the early days of Supernatural, he certainly starred in a good number of them. Cry Wolf was one of those movies, which premiered on Sept. 16, 2005.

There are a few reasons to check out this movie now. Sure, it’s not the greatest horror movie ever made, but it’s entertaining and leaves some intriguing thoughts when it comes to pranksters. One of the biggest reasons is certainly for Padalecki.

Our Sam Winchester plays Tom in Cry Wolf. Incidentally, Tom is the name of the character played by Jensen Ackles in My Bloody Valentine, which marks another occasion when the two actors played characters with the same name. Padalecki’s Tom is one of the guys in a group of friends and is dating Mercedes, who was played by Sandra McCoy, Padalecki’s fiancee at the time (and she’d later play a crossroads demon Padalecki’s Sam would shoot in Supernatural).

For Pretty Little Liars fans, Julian Morris is the lead character in the movie. He plays Owen, who finds himself at the heart of the murderer making his way around the elite boarding school.

Cry Wolf will make you think twice about pranks again. Eight friends love to play games and tell lies to trick their friends, but they soon realize that nobody believes someone who routinely cries wolf. Even though they may be telling the truth, nobody is interested in the prospect of a serial killer on the loose.

What doesn’t help their cases is that they’ve made up stories of who the next victims will be. When the next victims turn out to be true, can they convince others that this isn’t part of their little story?

Cry Wolf is certainly something for Supernatural fans to check out. It’s rated PG-13, which makes it suitable for the fans of the series.

Cry Wolf Rotten Tomatoes was a flop in terms of critical view, getting just 24% on. Audiences are a little nicer, with a 51% rating. However, it was a financial success! It made four-times its $1m budget at opening weekend and went on to make $10m overall in the U.S. and $15m globally.
