Supernatural Season 15 is almost here. After looking at what we need to see from the Winchester brothers, it’s time to look at Castiel.

We’re continuing our look ahead at Supernatural Season 15. It’s a chance to see what we need for character growth and story development in the final season. Today it’s all about Castiel.

Over the last two days, I’ve looked at the Winchester brothers. There’s no doubt that Castiel’s storyline will weave in with the brothers’ storylines at some point, but he also has development of his own that’s necessary. That’s why he needs a post of his own.

Here are the top five things we need to see from Castiel in Supernatural Season 15.

5. More individual character growth

More from Supernatural

In Season 14, we got an episode of Castiel figuring out a case on his own. He was able to pull Sam out of the spell and save the town. We need more of that in the final season.

Something that I’ve been disappointed about over the years is the way the writers sometimes forget that Cass was once a soldier. There have been glimpses in the odd episodes in Season 13 and 14, where he’s had to make decisions only soldiers would be able to make. He’s done the hard thing in an impossible situation.

This is needed more moving forward. We need to see the individual character growth for him. Stop him being so weak—not physically but internally—and allow him the chance to shine.

4. Deal with the situation with the Cosmic Entity

One of the looming threats is the Cosmic Entity taking Castiel. There’s the threat that if Castiel is truly happy, the Entity will come for our angel and take him to the Empty. And I have this fear that it’s going to happen at the end of the series.

Please can we have him deal with the situation? Could we have Castiel and the Winchesters make up so that Castiel can tell them of the deal that Cass made to save Jack? The Winchesters should understand considering the amount of times they’ve traded their lives for each other.

In a way, the Cosmic Entity can’t be destroyed. That is unless there’s a way to get rid of the Empty. But then what happens to the angels and demons when they’re killed? That’s a big question that will need answering.

3. Repair the bond with both Winchester brothers

Castiel’s bond with the Winchesters was on the rocks at the end of Supernatural Season 14. More so with Dean than with Sam. Dean’s decision to lock Jack away crossed a line for Castiel, which is ironic considering some of the difficult and questionable decisions Castiel has made in the past as a soldier. And this is where some of the inconsistencies with Castiel’s character development have come in.

However, we need to see Castiel’s bond with both Winchester brothers be repaired. It’s important to see him understand their actions while they understand his decisions and actions.

The first few episodes of Season 15 will be taking care of the current situation. After that, there will be time to get the three back on the same page. Just do it in a reasonable and realistic way, please.

2. More time with just Jack

It’s not going to be easy to fulfill this at the start of the season, but later on, there’s hope. Right now, Castiel believes that Jack is dead. He technically is and stuck in the Empty. What Castiel doesn’t know is that Billie needs Jack for something.

Once Jack is back, Castiel needs to get some time with the young Nephilim. Last season, we got to see Jack bond a lot more with Dean. The focus for Castiel was bonding with Sam. As much as I loved that, I want to see more of Papa Castiel helping Jack as we got in Season 13.

1. A chance to lead Heaven

Castiel has always shown signs of being a good leader. It’s time to fulfill that in Supernatural Season 15.

Despite everything other angels have done to him, Castiel has always tried to help Heaven. The angels may not deserve it but they’re family to Castiel and he didn’t want to see Heaven destroyed. It’s time for the angels to realize that everything Castiel has done is for their good and the good of the world.

Now there’s the God situation to contend with. It’s time for the angels to learn what their father has been up to and how he’s decided to destroy the world. Seeing the bad that’s in him, they can then turn to Castiel for help and guidance as they have done in the past.
