Dean Winchester will have a journey ahead of him in Supernatural Season 15. Here are five things we need to see from him in the final season.

Supernatural Season 15 has a lot hanging on it. There are hopes and expectations from many fans. The writers need to conclude the tale for its core four characters. The first we’re looking at on this list is Dean Winchester, since he was the first we looked at for throwbacks to Season 14.

More from Supernatural

There’s a lot that’s needed for Dean to fully round out his character’s story in the end. However, five things are more important than anything else. Here are my top needs for the elder Winchester brother.

5. Make up with Castiel

This is going to take some apologizing for both characters, but it’s going to be more on Dean than Castiel. Castiel needs to accept that this is part of Dean’s personality and when the fight or flight mechanism kicks in, there’s no way of controlling that. However, that doesn’t give Dean the right to act without consequences.

Dean almost killed Jack. At one point, he was willing to end this character’s life purely because he was a threat. In the end, he couldn’t do it, but it was too little too late for Castiel. The damage was done.

The two will need to make up. Dean will need to apologize for his actions and mean it. He’s going to have to see that it’s not always his way or the highway. But at the same time, this needs to be realistic.

4. Dealing with the lack of free will

Something the Winchesters learned is that everything they’ve been fighting for is false. They thought they were fighting for free will, but it turns out that it’s been a story all this time. I think Sam will struggle with that more than Dean, but there will be a part of Dean that struggles with this.

Everything that Dean has been through has been written. Losing his parents, losing so many friends, and even losing his brother on a couple of occasions haven’t been just a part of fighting for free will. God has written those loses and caused the brothers so much heartache.

We need to see Dean dealing with this idea that free will isn’t real. But then have the questions of whether it is real if (and more like when) the God problem is dealt with.

3. A chance to see Lisa and Ben again

One thing that we haven’t touched on since it happened was removing the memories of Lisa and Ben Braeden. Dean did that in Supernatural Season 6 to protect them, but there’s been something that has always bugged me. How long would their memories remain gone?

I’d like to see that at least come up in the final season. Maybe the Winchester brothers looking back at everything they’ve done, even discussing whether it’s been free will or the fake free will. Maybe show that Dean has regrets but also doesn’t have regrets for those actions because he did it to protect the Braedens.

Or we could see that Ben remembers something about hunting. He started to pick up on the things Dean did, so I’d love to see that Ben still remembers some of that and decided to fight against monsters. That would have been something to come up earlier in the series, though. I don’t think there’s time for it in the final season, so just a mention of the Braedens will do.

2. The continued support of Sammy as a leader

When Dean was possessed by Michael, Sam stepped up in the role as leader. After Dean’s initial return, it would have been easy for him to step back into that leadership role. Instead, he supported his brother and encouraged Sam to continue. This was such a huge moment for both brothers.

We’ve known that Dean trusts Sam. He’s shown faith in Sam as a leader before, but Supernatural Season 14 took it one step further. He stepped back and allowed himself to be led at times.

Unfortunately, Dean stepped back into the role of leader towards the end of the season. It would have been nice for the development of Sam taking the lead to continue into the end of the season, so I hope to see Dean’s support for Sam in Season 15.

1. Some sort of happy ending

Part of me knows that the only ending for the Winchesters has to be a bittersweet one. There are only two ways to end their story in the series finale. They either die and go to Heaven for all the work they’ve done or they ride off into the sunset and we know that they’re still hunting somewhere out there.

However, I want to see something happy. I want to see them be able to give up hunting and live a normal life. Granted, I don’t think they know what a true normal life is and I don’t think they’ve be fully happy with that. We’ve seen Dean attempt to live one with Lisa and Ben back in Season 6.

What I want to see is some sort of normal life for them. Some life where they get to revel in removing the monsters from the world. I do think that is just wishful thinking, though.
