We’ve seen Hall-H light up through swaying #AKF candles, raise some fangirling hell alongside Kansas, but nothing quite hits like the final time. Here are the emotional moments from the very last Supernatural SDCC panel.

Intermingling with the havoc that’s about to be caused by Gish, San Diego Comic-Con has been a talking point in the fandom for the last few weeks. More particularly, where one would be when the cast and crew of Supernatural took to Hall-H for the final time.

Some were lucky enough to fly in and be a part of the electrifying atmosphere which saw a standing ovation. Even snagging the nameplates of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Others were with the people they’ve met across this journey through a stream of tweets.

More from Supernatural

Then there was me and a couple of thousand others carrying on through an audio live stream. Whether you were in Hall-H or merely in your living room celebrating the ending of a decade-long tradition, it quickly got emotional.

Holly Ollis’ speech

You might’ve heard her name floating around. She’s kind of a big deal and a lovely addition to the SPN family. Holly Ollis is the PR representative for Supernatural at Warner Brothers but is mostly known for writing a speech that moved an entire fandom.

Decked out in her Impala shirt, she took to the podium and forewarned of possible tear-works. Not that we could be one to judge. It started with the road so far: where were you when you first discovered the gemstone that is two badass brothers taking to the open road with a demon-hunting mission?

“Maybe you were home on the evening of September 13th, 2005? … Or maybe a friend lent you their VHS tapes, remember those? Or maybe you happened to catch a bunch of re-runs? Or maybe you weren’t even born when the show started?”

She spoke about the fact that no matter if the road is about to end through its television format – haven’t you heard? There might be a movie in the works?! – we will always be connected.

Richard and Rob’s introductions

The comedy duo has become a staple to the panel. From whipping out those comedy elbows to sporting an accent or two when voicing a doll. But we were taken back when the tone immediately became mellow when they introduced the talent and special ingredients for Supernatural being the longest-running sci-fi show in American history.

Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict even scored a kiss on the cheek from Robert Singer himself. Well, Rich did. Then Rob.

Touching on philanthropic adventures, Misha Collins walked out to a heart-warming introduction which saw a glimpse into him hanging up the Castiel trenchcoat.

Then Richard and Rob started to rattle off epic television brothers: “Bo and Luke Duke. Jaime and Tyrion Lannister. Those two dudes from Suits.” “Were they brothers?” Rob interjected. Whilst the list provided a snapshot into the chemistry of various narratives brought into our households, none more special to us than Sam and Dean Winchester.

And nothing, perhaps, felt more special to Jared and Jensen than walking out together. As they went in for that iconic hug, tears had already welled in their eyes.

Giant Texan softies

By now, we know Jared is the one to look out for. If you’re not careful then he can bring out the tears. He did it in Vegas at the first Creation Entertainment Supernatural convention after the announcement.

And if you were to have incited a bet then he would’ve been the favorite to win at SDCC. He even ping-ponged the conversation to Jensen. What we didn’t expect was for Jensen’s voice to become shaky and him to be noticeably nervous.

For someone who is usually a stone-brick wall and a trusty alliance in helping console others, he certainly didn’t help either. “I’m trying not to cry,” he said. “Can we all just start crying?”

Misha’s manifestation

The fourth season of Supernatural truly seems light-years away. In fact, some of us might not even remember a time when Castiel wasn’t stepping into the Winchester’s personal bubbles.

Or balancing the tightrope of an awkward personality to badassery when taking down a fellow angel. A goal card, however, does.

Before Misha went onto shape a guest star role into an integral part of the ensemble, he took part in a New Years tradition where he wrote what he set out to accomplish on a three by five notecard.

In the year of 2007, he wrote that he was “a regular on a show that is creatively fulfilling and I become lifelong friends with my castmates.” Whilst he will be writing a new goal card, the dreams that he had back then came into fruition.

Generation of showrunners

It wouldn’t be a Supernatural retrospective panel if there wasn’t a mention of the one who built its creation: Erick Kripke. These days you can find him frolicking with an assembly of superheroes who wish to have their minute of fame on The Boys, but he is the one to thank for the series that changed the course of many people’s lives.

As his name echoed throughout the hall there was sporadic applause. Followed by the names of those who precedented: Sera Gamble, Jeremy Carver, and finally, Andrew Dabb.

A tribute to baby

Watch a video tribute to baby narrated by Jim Beaver and sentimentality will strike from knowing how important a 1967 Chevy Impala was to the series.

Hear the words: ‘our story is coming to a close, but the road, it never really ends’… And it might just catch you off-guard that Supernatural really is being sent off into the night after its fifteenth season.

But hardly anyone expected that an actual replica Impala would be given away during the conclusion of the panel. A set of keys were given to those who had asked a question. One of them was set to be called out and be proclaimed the winner. Number three, we’re incredibly jealous.
