Supernatural history: Jared Padalecki’s first movie role, A Little Inside

On this day in Supernatural history, Jared Padalecki’s movie debut was released in theaters. A Little Inside is a feel-good movie with a sweet lesson.

Supernatural history is a fun look at the past of the cast and crew of the series. Jared Padalecki got his movie start with A Little Inside, a heartfelt story of a man and his daughter.

Jared isn’t in it much, but he does play an ironic character considering his role today. He’s a mechanic that lead character Ed Mills (Benjamin King) works with. Considering Sammy has to learn everything about cars from big brother Dean, it’s certainly fun to see his character know the way around a truck.

A Little Inside is more about the father and daughter team. Ed wants to be a pro-baseball player but his life takes an unexpected turn after the death of his wife. He finds himself as the sole carer for his daughter Abby (Hallie Eisenberg) and they navigate unknown territory together. Ed learns that he can’t force his own dreams on his daughter and needs to listen to the things that she would like to do.

Originally, the idea was for the movie to be a 14-minute short. In the end, it was adapted into a feature-length film and was aired at the Austin Film Festival in 1999, but didn’t receive its nationwide release until Feb. 17, 2002. While there are no critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score is 50%. It may not be the greatest movie ever, but it’s always fun to see one of our own show up, right?
