Supernatural Season 13 introduced Heaven starting to fail. It looked like an immediate situation that has now seemingly been overlooked. Will we see the storyline return?

During Supernatural Season 13, Castiel learned that Heaven was failing. This was something hinted at from about the halfway point as angels wanted Jack to make more angels. As angels died, Heaven started to crumble and by the time Castiel learned about it, it sounded like an immediate-fix-needed type of situation.

Then the end of the season happened and Apocalypse Michael possessing Dean became a more immediate problem to solve. Suddenly, Heaven just seems to have been forgotten about. So, will we ever go back to this storyline?

It looked like we would do at some point in Supernatural Season 14. When Jack died, he went to Heaven. This would have been the perfect time to combine the storylines but the writers chose to bring the Empty back instead. More angels died but the situation in Heaven seems to have remained the same.

So, has the Heaven crumbling problem just been completely overlooked and forgotten? Will the writers head back there?

I’ll admit in Season 13 that it did seem like the crumbling Heaven storyline felt like something just thrown in. We got the initial hint in Episode 9 and then nothing until Episode 20 when Castiel found out the truth in Heaven. Up until that point, Lucifer had been in Heaven and there was little hint of a catastrophic problem.

There’s a sense that this storyline wasn’t completely thought out. Maybe it was one of those thrown in during the plotting of the final episodes. Either way, it looks like it’s being overlooked or forgotten about right now for the more immediate problems.

Hopefully, we’ll see the show revisit this storyline at some point. It could be a good one if handled right. Hey, letting it crumble could create a major problem to solve in Season 15 with Hell still being around but in a leadership mess.
