Supernatural Episode 300 is going to feature both Winchesters and Castiel. Misha Collins hinted at time travel, but what does that actually mean?

We’re going to definitely see Castiel in Supernatural Episode 300. Cue plenty of cheering from many fans who see him as an integral part of the series. Quite honestly, Misha Collins (and therefore, his character) has become an integral part but that’s not up for debate right now.

It’s all about the hints Collins gave to TVLine when confirming he would be part of the episode. He mentioned time travel and a slightly different version of the character.

What could this mean, exactly? Are we going to see the Winchesters and Cass step through a doorway that takes them back in time?

Possibility of “what could have been?”

More from Supernatural

The most literal meaning is that the Winchesters and Cass do travel back in time. Or maybe they travel through time to a different dimension. Is it possible they head to a world of what could have been?

This would be similar to the djinn in Supernatural Season 2. The group end up in a world where one thing changed and they see what could have happened had that one event played out differently.

A view of the apocalypse?

In a way, this is also similar to the Apocalypse World. So a direct option would be to finally play out what happened in the Apocalypse World. We’ve already met the Castiel there and nobody liked him (I’m still not sure where the odd accent came from), so I doubt that’s going to be the case.

But what if the apocalypse happened in this world? What if Sam and Dean both said yes to their archangels and the battle commenced? Would we see a battle-hardened Castiel? Hey, even Adam could be there as Michael instead, leaving Castiel and Dean to fight.

Don’t forget we saw a different version of Castiel when Dean went forward in time. Could this lead us to a human Castiel and battle-focused Dean Winchester?

A story of Lebanon?

Andrew Dabb previously hinted that Supernatural Episode 300 would be a look from the outside. We’d get to see what the people of Lebanon see when the Winchesters are in town and how they’d react around everyone else.

Is it possible that we jump back in time to see how the people of Lebanon reacted to these strange newcomers? The core cast could even play Lebanon locals to put familiar faces to the new characters, so all we get is rumor and discussions of the odd hunters that stroll in, buy their groceries, and do their laundry.

Even if we just get glimpses of the Winchesters and Castiel, we’d get a slightly different version of the characters. This would be versions the people of Lebanon have in their heads; what they see when the hunters and angel come into town.

But it’s all about time travel, isn’t it? Well, there would be an element of time travel to tell the stories.
