Supernatural Season 14 has been a turning point for Sam Winchester. He is officially a leader. On this #TransformationTuesday, it’s time to look at how that’s happened and what could be in store in the future.

We’ve waited a long time for Sam Winchester’s character development and it finally happened in the Supernatural Season 14 premiere. With Dean overtaken by Michael, Sam had no choice but to step up as a leader.

It’s certainly not been an easy ride. To start with, he’s leading a group of hunters he doesn’t know. Those he does know are different versions to the people he once knew. Yet, he’s had to step up and teach them the ways of this world and give them assignments and orders because they don’t seem to be able to cope without him.

Supernatural doesn’t usually see Sam assume this type of role. Dean has always been by his side. In the earlier seasons, Dean would look after his “kid brother.” Whenever there was a situation, Dean would immediately assume the job of being a leader.

There were only two times that Dean took a step back. The first was whenever John Winchester showed up, who immediately took over as the patriarch of the family. The second was in Supernatural Season 12. When Dean was injured, Sam had to step up to lead the group of hunters to take down the British Men of Letters.

Sam did such an awesome job, we hoped there would be more of this. Yet, Season 13 rolled around and Dean took over being the leader again. There were far too many times that Sam found himself as the damsel in distress.

That’s changed inSupernatural Season 14. Sam is now the leader and it doesn’t look like that will change. Dean isn’t angry at Sam assuming this leadership role. In fact, Dean is going to be proud of his kid brother. When others needed the Winchesters, Sam was able to step up. While he searched for Dean, Sam was able to support others. I don’t think Dean would have been able to do this (and I’m admittedly a Dean!Girl).

While he searched for Dean and led the hunters, he was also there for Jack. He helped nurture the young powerless nephilim. Between Sam and Cass, Jack knew that he had support and help if he was willing to reach out for them.

Hopefully, Leader!Sam will stick around. He’s a strong and confident man, stepping up when the going gets tough. He’s focused and constantly trying to remain one step ahead, despite feeling 10 steps behind. The group of hunters are going to need someone they can trust and that’s Sam Winchester in Supernatural Season 14.

Next. #TT: Jensen Ackles beautifully embodies Michael. dark
