Supernatural Season 14: Jack definitely had a point about the fight against Michael

In Supernatural Season 14, Episode 2, Jack made it clear he would protect the many instead of the few. While this meant he’d be willing to let Dean die and we wouldn’t want that, I have to admit he had a good point.

When you’re connected to someone emotionally, it’s extremely hard to say that you’d be willing to let them die. It’s no wonder that Sam, Castiel, and Mary are unwilling to kill Dean to protect the world. However, in Supernatural Season 14, Episode 2, Jack has made it clear he doesn’t feel that way.

During the episode (which is also something that came up in the first Supernatural Season 14 trailer), Jack made it clear that if killing Dean was the only way to kill Michael, he’d be okay with it. Sure, he’d be sad, but he would view the death as more of a sacrifice. It meant putting the lives of many before the lives of the few.

The only reason Castiel wasn’t happy with that line of thinking is because it’s Dean. Like us as fans, Castiel doesn’t want to see Dean gone. But if it was anyone else, Castiel would probably have agreed with Jack because the statement makes sense.

More from Supernatural

Michael is a tyrant. He views humans as imperfect and will do whatever it takes to get rid of them. The only way to stop that is to stop Michael, but what if the only way to do that is to kill a loved one–the loved one he’s possessing?

If this was Christian Keyes’ version of Michael, everyone would likely be on the same side as Jack. There was never any thought of who that vessel was before Michael. We’ve forgotten in a way that Castiel possessed Jimmy Novak and is now walking in his body. Lucifer took over Nick and nobody really even thought about what that meant for the life Nick left behind.

It’s only because it’s Dean that anyone is really that hesitant to do what needs to be done. Jack is thinking like a soldier, the way that many of the hunters in the bunker are likely thinking. They see the archangel and not the vessel. And quite honestly, if it means protecting the world, then yes, one person should die–but only if it definitely means protecting the world.

This is something that has been brought up time and time again on Supernatural. In “Jus in Bello,” Dean refused to let the virgin die to save the world. Instead, that virgin, Victor Henriksen, and the rest in the sheriff’s office died at the hands of Lilith. In Supernatural Season 4, Uriel and Castiel offered to level a town to prevent a seal from breaking but the Winchesters refused, leading to that seal breaking and Lucifer eventually getting out.

Even in Supernatural Season 13, we saw the argument used. Castiel went into Donatello’s mind making him brain dead to extract information from the tablet after Donatello turned evil.

This really is no different to all those times the argument has come up and sometimes been used. The only big difference is that Dean was the one possessed. But quite honestly, Jack had a point.
