Just as Supernatural premiered for the first time, Jared Padalecki had another movie coming out. Cry Wolf was released on this day 13 years ago.

Cry Wolf was released on Sept. 16, 2005, just days after the Supernatural premiere aired for the first time. What do the two productions have in common? Jared Padalecki.

Jared plays Tom Jordan, a friend of the lead character, Owen. They’re part of a group that likes to prank each other, which leads to its own trouble. Sure enough, Owen finds himself pulled into a world of mystery and murder, trying to figure out who the “Wolf” is.

Along the way, the group continues to prank each other. Eventually, it does all turn extremely deadly and dangerous, but I’ll leave you to figure out how and why by watching the movie for yourself.

More from Supernatural

While Jared Padalecki is the main connection between Cry Wolf and Supernatural at first, there are two Supernatural guest stars from later seasons in the movie: Sandra McCoy and Gary Cole.

Sandra was Jared’s fiancee until the two broke up shortly after the TV show’s second season. She played a crossroad demon that Sam killed while trying to get Dean out of the deal. Gary Cole played Brad Redding in the Season 2 episodes “Hollywood Babylon.”

Overall, Cry Wolf isn’t a strong movie. It’s okay if you want to put something on that has a slight twist at the end that you didn’t initially see coming. This is also one of those if you like the light horror movies. It’s not as gruesome as Jensen Ackles’ My Blood Valentine and not quite as creepy as Jared Padalecki’s later horror movie Friday the 13th.
