The Boys: Kripke directs again after Supernatural

Eric Kripke, creator of Supernatural, is back in the director’s chair for The Boys and we are beyond excited. Will Supernatural fans latch onto his latest project?

I love movies and shows. No, like, I mean it.

One thing I’ve discovered along the way is that there is often a common tie between those that capture me the hardest. After watching a certain film that really moved me, I thought to myself for the first time, “I have to find out who’s amazing brain made this up.” That’s when I started reading the credits. You really can’t miss them on Supernatural, which is super smart, I must say.

As it turns out, the guy who wrote that one movie also thought of a bunch of other stuff that I was totally in love with. Now I am not just someone who is interested in movies when I recognize an actor/actress I enjoy, but I also follow writers, directors, producers, everyone.

I like to call it the Stephen King effect. You know what I mean, right? Enter my most recent entertainment addiction: Eric Kripke.

Along with Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, he is part of the all-star team behind the screen adaptation of The Boys for Amazon. With Kripke back in the chair to direct an episode for the first time since “Lucifer Rising,” this will absolutely be TV gold. Those three guys? On one team? Can I just have this right now, please?

The Boys is the adaptation of a comic book from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Its focus is on a group of average guys and how they go after some superheros who have grown to use their public platforms for devious gain. Do you think there’s room for a political twist or two? I’m hoping for a little sprinkle of the Sam and Dean attitudes versus Hancock sort of action.

It isn’t as if Kripke has been on vacation since we last saw his work on Supernatural. He was co-creator for the series Timeless, which grew its own family of loyal fans and followers he called the “Time Team” (aka #Clockblockers). With the show canceled after its first season, it was amazingly saved but then canceled again after its second.

Timeless was left hanging dramatically at the end of season 2(so Kripke, right?). When the news came that season 3 was not happening, the Clockblockers were basically freaking out.

After a huge outcry from the masses, it was announced that Timeless would receive its finish with a two-hour movie finale expected to turn up in December of this year. Victory!

Let’s not forget for one tiny second, Kripke’s adaptation of The House With A Clock In Its Walls. Why? This glowing gem has a secret: It’s the reason Supernatural was born. Kripke said that after reading the book as a child, his life was never the same. After years of combined events, it led him to go on and create the show and world that would, in turn, change our lives, as well. If you don’t believe me, just watch for all the references!

Now, in a true life-goals scenario, Kripke has served as writer and producer to adapt the book for film. We get to see Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and super darling Owen Vaccaro take on the leads. Eli Roth directs and the cast was pretty thrilled with the whole package.

Even if this wasn’t a Kripke genius power film, how can you go wrong with these names bring it to the front line? But, it is one. So it’s actually pegasus-level amazing.

The world premiere had its audience thrilled to bits yesterday in London, and I am already in line for tickets in my mind. It should be hitting the theater in my town later this month! Finally!

Meanwhile, Kripke continues to love on our own (and his) beloved Supernatural. Though he stepped down as showrunner after his big finish opening Lucifer’s cage, he remained an integral part of the process as a writer and executive producer.

As he is the true Chuck of this story, he is obviously still heavily involved with the #SPNFamiy on social media and IRL, and is (hopefully forever) a Supernatural executive consultant.
