During SDCC 2018, the Supernatural cast and EPs sat down to discuss the storyline for Supernatural Season 14. Up first is Jared Padalecki, who spoke about what’s in store for Sam this season.

Supernatural took to the stage at SDCC but that wasn’t the only place the news was at. FanSided’s Entertainment Director, Cody Schultz, had the opportunity to sit in a roundtable interview with Jared Padalecki to learn more about what to expect in Supernatural Season 14. Just what will Sam do now?

This is going to be an intense season to begin with. Sam will find himself as the leader in the bunker, a bunker that now has 30 hunters from the Apocalypse World with no idea how to make things work in this Paradise World. These hunters also want Michael dead, with absolutely no care in the world about Dean. Of course, Sam, Cass, and Jack need to save Dean from Michael first.

During the roundtable interview, Padalecki shared that Sam taking a leadership role is very different from what we saw at the end of Supernatural Season 12, storming the Men of Letters base. He needs to do this without his brother’s support; going up against his brother. Meanwhile, he has to deal with a scared and powerless Jack.

Padalecki also shares his thoughts on the Sam/Lucifer storyline of Supernatural Season 13. This was the season we learned what being Lucifer’s vessel and being in the Cage meant for Sam. There is certainly more to come in Season 14. Dean isn’t going to be one to open up in the aftermath when they free him from Michael, so Padalecki shares what that’s going to be like for Sam and Cass.

There’s also a tidbit on what’s to come for Jack and Sam (which Padalecki made it clear he was answering the question before he had to move on). We’ll get to see Sam becoming more nurturing and protective than ever. Maybe he’ll get to see what it’s like being Dean.
