A new State law has come into effect in Texas and Jensen Ackles couldn’t agree more with it. In fact, he agrees so much he’s done a social media campaign to prove so.

There’s a new law in Texas. It’s now illegal to write, read, or send a text while driving. The initiative is to cut down on the number of distracted drivers, and this is something Supernatural star Jensen Ackles agrees wholeheartedly with.

To show that he agrees, he’s teamed with Texas Department of Transportation with a new social media campaign. It’s a short video, where he explains what the new law is. This isn’t about guilt-tripping or uncomfrotable viewing. This new law actually came into effect in September 2017, but Ackles’ social media campaign has only just been released.

The hope is that a big local star will help to make more people aware that distracted driving kills. In 2017 alone, 19% of crashes involved distracted driving of some point. That equates to more than 100,000 crashes in the state alone! Out of these 100,000+ crashes, 444 resulted in deaths and nearly 3,000 resulted in serious injuries, according to the Texas Department of Transportation official website.

It’s really not surprising the department wants things to change. They’re attempting to do so with the slogan “Talk, Text, Crash.”

There is absolutely no reason why you should check your phone while driving. It’s safer to pull over and check your phone then! Driving distracted takes your eyes off the road. Even in that one second you can end up running into the back of someone, skidding off the road, missing a stop sign, or knocking someone over.

You can check out Ackles’ social media campaign above to see what he thinks of distracted driving. Just don’t do it!
