Why Jody Mills just had to make the list of greatest sheriffs
A list of the greatest TV sheriffs has been released and Supernatural’s Jody Mills was on it. That’s not a surprise to the SPN Family and here’s a look at why.
When Sheriff Jody Mills made Seenit’s list of greatest on-screen sheriffs, the SPN Family wasn’t surprised. The Supernatural sheriff has a very special place in the hearts of fans, now potentially getting her own spin-off series (as long as The CW picks it up).
It shouldn’t need explaining why we weren’t surprised, but for those outside the Supernatural fandom, let us explain why Jody Mills will always be at the top of any greatest TV sheriffs lists released.
She’s brave, strong, and smart
There’s a lot of focus right now on strong women, especially with the #MeToo campaign, but Jody has been around much longer than that. In fact, she’s been around so long that had it not been for the spin-off, I worried the series would kill her off at some point (as it does with all strong women).

Jody isn’t just strong, though. She’s brave and smart. This is a woman who will always do the right thing. When she was first introduced to the supernatural world, she took it in her stride. While in hospital for a very normal problem, she realized the supernatural threat and took steps to contain it. The time Bobby had a dead body and the FBI on his doorstep, Jody helped to distract knowing Bobby wouldn’t have killed someone unless it was necessary.
She commands respect
And while she’s taking care of the unnatural problems, she’s still there for the natural ones. This is a female sheriff who commands respect, wherever she goes. God help anyone who attempts to talk down to her because she will not take it.

Her nurturing personality can still come through, but you know when you’re on the wrong side of her. Even before she became part of the Winchesters’ family, she would gain their respect both in and out of work.
She’s a nurturing mom
Despite losing her only child, Jody has taken in young girls looking for a home. Many other women would turn their backs, attempting not to get close to someone in case they lost those people. Jody had done the opposite. She’s healed to the point that she can welcome children into her life and look after them. They will always have a home.
The Wayward Sisters backdoor pilot showed that. Jody didn’t like Claire hunting because of the danger out there and the fear of losing Claire. In the end, Jody realized that she would have to let that go or risk losing Claire for other reasons.
While Alex and Claire have lived under Jody’s roof, they have been looked after, cared for, and loved. They’ve grown into smart, protective, and brilliant young women with their own personalities. It’s Jody who has helped do that.
