Jensen Ackles is playing another character on Supernatural. He hasn’t shared who, but it’s time to delve into potential ideas.

In case you missed it, Jensen Ackles told Entertainment Weekly that he was going to get the chance to play another character. It’s something his co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins have had the chance to do, but something he’s never had the luxury of. Sure, he’s played Deanmon, Shifter!Dean, and a few other variations of himself, but they have always been himself.

Padalecki has played Lucifer and Gadreel, while Collins has taken on multiple characters with Castiel hidden away in a corner. Now it’s time for Ackles to get that chance and show off his acting skills. But who will he play in the upcoming episodes? Here are five ideas for another character he could play.

The archangel Michael

One of the biggest theories is that he’ll become the vessel for Michael. This was, after all, the reason he was born in the first place. Zachariah tried extremely hard to get Dean to say yes to become Michael’s sword. In the end, Dean chose family but the apocalypse went ahead anyway. Sam said yes to Lucifer and eventually Adam said yes to Michael.

Now there’s a chance for Dean to say yes to Michael. This could be Apocalypse Michael, who realizes that maybe his current vessel can’t hold him in a world where Dean is his rightful vessel. Another option is that Michael escapes Lucifer’s cage and has the chance to possess the right Winchester brother.

Of course, if it’s the latter, we want to know where Adam is. Isn’t it about time he got out of Hell?

Prince of Hell, Asmodeus

A more obvious answer for Ackles’ new character is Asmodeus. This is a character that has proven his ability to shapeshift. He’s turned into Castiel before, but what about Dean?

The question is who Asmodeus would have to trick now, but there are plenty of victims. Asmodeus could go up against one of Dean’s former flames or may attempt to trick Sam or Castiel.

Technically, this would be Dean playing a character playing himself. It may not quite count as a fully different character in the way Ackles mentions.

The Cosmic Entity

Supernatural Season 13 introduced the world of the Empty. It really was empty. The only creature that Castiel saw was the Cosmic Entity, which took on the form of Castiel with one of the strangest old-fashioned accents ever.

What if the Winchesters somehow end up in the Empty? What if they need to get to the Empty for someone else down there? Is it possible that Dean will come across the Cosmic Entity that takes his form?

This would be interesting to see. Ackles does like to put on accents, even if they aren’t always convincing. Could he put on such an awesome old-fashioned, odd English accent?

The archangel Gabriel

There’s another archangel that could take over Dean’s form–as long as Dean says yes, of course. What about Gabriel?

Right now, Gabriel is stuck in Asmodeus’ prison. There doesn’t seem to be much of a way out, but Ketch will surely have a trick or two up his sleeve. Maybe he has a way to get Gabriel out of his vessel for now and then later get the vessel out of the dungeon.

Who better than Dean to take on the archangel formerly known as the Trickster? Dean likely wouldn’t be very happy, but it would be something fun to watch.

Body switch with Sam

Could it be the moment that fans have waited years to see? Could the Winchester brothers finally switch places? Ackles and Padalecki have shown on stage how they would act as one another, but it’s finally time that the writers gave us this episode.

It’s easy to see how it could happen as a standalone episode. Something happens in the bunker or a witch casts a spell, and the two souls are switched. No other explanation really needs to happen.

Another fun one would be if Castiel was included too. After all, there’s that image of the three pretending to be each other.

Next: Happy 40th Birthday, Jensen Ackles
