My Bloody Valentine: The anti-Valentine’s movie for Supernatural fans

Supernatural fans wanting to catch one of their favorite stars in an anti-Valentine’s movie need to catch the horror movie My Bloody Valentine with Jensen Ackles.

Out of all the movies in the world, there’s only one that stands out in the Supernatural fandom as the perfect anti-Valentine’s feature. My Bloody Valentine, which was released in 2009, stars Jensen Ackles. It’s one of those movies that will take you through twists and turns, and you won’t expect the ending unless you’ve epically seen all the clues!

It is a horror movie, but it’s not the scariest one you’ll ever seen. You can get both 2D or 3D versions, and you’ll definitely want to laugh at your friends as they duck and dive all the graphics jumping out of the screen at you. Honestly, though, the 2D feature is much better in terms of graphic quality.

The premises of the slasher flick

My Bloody Valentine is about a murderer roaming through a town 10 years after a big incident. It almost sounds like I Know What You Did Last Summer, but there is a twist. The event on Valentine’s Day 1997 involved the collapse of the Hanniger mine, which led to five miners dead and one comatose. Ackles’ Tom Hanniger was blamed for the incident, since he’d forgotten to vent the methane, causing the collapse.

A decade later, while a group of teens are partying in the mines (surprise, surprise) the lone miner wakes and murders start to happen. The police force has to figure out where the miner is and who the next victim is before it’s too late.

The first R-rated 3D film

When released in 2009, My Bloody Valentine had the honor of becoming the first R-rated movie to get the 3D treatment. It certainly shows with the graphic quality, but then I’m not the biggest fan of 3D movies outside of animation anyway. The use of the 3D effects is mainly for the jump scares, as pickaxes and debris are thrown towards the audience.

Director Patrick Lussier certainly used the 3D graphics as much as possible. He got a chance to show how they could work for the horror genre.

The overall movie has a feeling of the 80s. It’s not surprising, considering it is a remake of the Canadian 1981 movie of the same name.

Ackles’ acting was as expected, though. He played the character of Tom exceptionally well. For those who haven’t seen the movie, it’s hard to say why it was so good. Let’s just say that his character isn’t everything you would initially expect it to be.

When you want something different to watch this Valentine’s Day, try My Bloody Valentine. Ackles takes a main role, pleasing all Supernatural fans around the world. Overall, it’s something fun to watch when you want to see one of your favorite actors. And when you want a cheesy, slasher horror movie with a twist at the end.
