Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles talk about that hilarious ‘Lizard’ scene during the Supernatural convention in Orlando

A lot of good came out of the Wayward Sisters backdoor pilot episode. Plenty of big moments and plenty of hilarious moments too. Ratings have been high, making it a strong possibility that the show will get picked up for a spin-off series.

One of the major talking points, however, has been the scene involving Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and a lizard. Neither of them were in the backdoor pilot much, which was fully expectedly as the focus was going to be on the Wayward Sisters, but when they did appear, it was just pure gold.

Dean doesn’t leave food

As Sam and Dean were stuck in The Bad Place and had no idea how long they would be there for, they needed to find a way to survive. Neither of the Winchesters is unfamiliar with survival techniques and, naturally, both were doing just fine.

They had a nice fire going and some food, well Dean had food anyway. Sam looked completely disgusted at Dean chomping on a char-grilled lizard and wasn’t too keen on trying it himself. The scene then went on to them both moving position after hearing some strange, unfamiliar noise coming towards them.

However, Dean doesn’t get more than ten steps away before quickly turning around and running back for his lizard. After all, Dean doesn’t exactly leave food behind. The entire scene showed that both the actors have some comedy gold moments in them, especially Jensen Ackles who has been pulling a lot of them off lately.

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles talk about that lizard scene

During the Supernatural convention in Orlando, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles talked about that actual scene. It turns out that Dean running back to collect his leftover lizard was not in the script. Yes, it’s one of those ad-libbed moments that Supernatural prides itself on including.

Ackles said that while filming it, he suddenly thought, “Dean doesn’t leave food.” So he went back to retrieve it. He had no idea they intended to use that shot in the final cut, but considering how funny it was we are certainly glad they did.

Padalecki then went on and talked about the lizard itself and how it was made. The disgusting description of it made us suddenly realize that Sam’s expression in that scene was no doubt real, rather than being acted.
