Supernatural: Castiel and why he does not appear in every episode

Despite the popularity of your favourite angel there is a reason why Castiel cannot appear as often as you would like in Supernatural
When Supernatural first started out it was all about Sam and Dean driving around saving people, hunting things, the family business. Fast forward a few hundred episodes and thirteen seasons and the show has certainly evolved.
No longer just hunting spirits and monsters, the brothers regularly go head to head with demons, which were a rarity in the beginning and even duke it out with the angels, who were originally never to appear in Supernatural.

The evolution of Cas
One thing, or should we say person/angel, that has evolved the most, is Castiel. Some of you may not know it but when Misha Collins first got the gig he was only intended to be in for a few episodes. You all took such a liking to him however that he was regularly called back and has since become a series regular.
You all enjoy seeing him so much that many of you get very upset when he doesn’t appear in the episode. What you may not have realised, however, that despite the popularity of Misha Collins, he cannot actually appear in every episode.
Due to the contract that he has with the network and producers he actually cannot appear in every episode. Why would the producers do such a thing for a character so popular? Well it’s not necessarily their fault. The contract will have been negotiated between network, producers, Collins, and Collins’ agent.
There are a few reasons for less screen time at play, such as budget requirements and Collins himself wanting to spend time with his family. He is a very busy man with his charities and side projects. While he likes to be busy, that doesnt mean constantly being on the screen.
Is it such a bad thing?
Supernatural did okay without him. Cas didn’t show up until season 4 and it was the season after he was made a regular and the show did absolutely fine. He was even demoted back to guest star for two seasons and the promoted again!
He has certainly brought something different and Supernatural probably wouldn’t be as successful without him but it’s not such a bad thing when he doesn’t show up from time to time.
