There are still many rumors circulating that Episode 300 of Supernatural is going to be the last. This would mean Supernatural Season 14 would be half the length of a normal season.

Mark Pedowitz, director at The CW, recently confirmed that Supernatural Season 14 was not definitely going to happen. This shouldn’t be that surprising news. It’s uncommon for The CW to decide a new season of the show before the current season has even started. Even a show like SPN, which has a major fan base, doesn’t get any special treatment.

Yet this isn’t all bad news. Just because Pedowitz says it isn’t currently confirmed doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The CW director also confirmed that there were plans for more from the Winchester brothers. There are two things that will get in the way of his plans: the fans and the stars.

Fans need to keep watching Supernatural

If fans want to see a 14th season, they need to keep watching the show. The good news is The CW looks at more than just the live ratings. It considers the streaming, DVR, and social media ratings. In other words, watch how you can and when you want, but make sure The CW knows you’re doing it. Tweeting #Supernatural during the hour-long episodes every Thursday (even if you’re not watching live) is going to help the chances of renewal.

Of course, we have no control over Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and the other stars of the show, but if they know the fans want Supernatural to continue there is a chance they will oblige. As long as the stars want it and the ratings remain good, the show is likely to continue for years to come.

Does this news have any effect on the Episode 300 rumors?

If you haven’t heard, the biggest rumors right now about Supernatural’s end is that Episode 300 will be the last. This was based on a comment made by Padalecki to Entertainment Weekly, where he stated that the 300th episode was the next milestone. What would happen after that episode was something to discuss later, but he said that he would really like to get to that milestone.

"“In a marathon, I keep my sights on that next mile, wherever that might be. And 300’s a good number to work for.”–Jensen Ackles"

The comment was taken wildly out of context. Suddenly everyone started incorrectly reporting that Padalecki had said Episode 300 was going to be the end. Ackles had to correct people, by saying that Padalecki didn’t mean that; just that it was literally the next milestone they were working towards.

Padalecki also shared that when they get to Episode 300, they might say goodbye. That didn’t mean Episode 300 was the last, but that they would look together at when to wrap up the storyline for the Winchester brothers.

In other words, there are strong chances that Supernatural Season 14 will go ahead. Episode 300 would be the 13th episode of Season 14. Does this mean the next season would be only half a season? That’s highly debatable. The shortest season so far has been Season 3, and that was due to the writer’s strike in 2007-2008, which affected all shows on TV at the time.

However, EP Robert Singer has said it is possible. All he wants is to be able to tell a full exit storyline. It looks like he wants to show to go out on his (and the rest of the cast and crew’s) terms, rather than the network’s.

"“I think it would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale. I think we’ve earned that. I don’t know what that finale is, but we’d certainly like to do one.”–Robert Singer"

While Supernatural Season 14 hasn’t been confirmed just yet, don’t let that worry you. The CW will likely make a decision around January 2018 about the next season of the show. As long as the ratings remain good and the stars want to do it, it is likely to be renewed. As for Episode 300, it may or may not be the last, but so far it’s just the next milestone J2 are working towards.
